China has seen an outbreak of a new disease, metapneumovirus. The first 13 cases have already been reported in Ukraine.
Pulmonologist Oleksandr Ivashchenko commented on this on Instagram.
New virus in the world
According to him, this pathogen is not new to science or medicine. But its rapid spread is a cause for concern.
The first 13 cases have already been registered in Ukraine, but Ivashchenko urged not to panic but to monitor the situation. Indeed, this virus can cause bronchiolitis and pneumonia and behave quite aggressively in the human body.
Diagnosis and prevention of metapneumovirus
The doctor noted that there are no rapid tests yet, but there are PCR tests. If the disease is actively spreading, this type of diagnosis will become widely available to the public.
To prevent infection, you should wash your hands more often and avoid touching your face. You should also avoid crowded places, especially abroad, including airports. It is also necessary to ventilate the room and to do wet cleaning.
When to see a doctor
Ivashchenko recommends seeing a doctor in case of the first symptoms of SARS and getting tested for influenza and coronavirus.
You should pay attention not only to individual symptoms but also to your overall health.
As a reminder, hospitals in China are overcrowded due to the respiratory virus, and emergency measures have been introduced.
According to infectious disease specialist Olha Holubovska, 13 officially confirmed cases have been registered in Ukraine since the beginning of the season, but in reality there are more.
