Five simple settings to keep your iPhone safe from spying
Modern fraudsters have learned how to access your documents, photos, and videos on smartphones. If you're worried about your data and privacy, or that someone might be snooping on your iPhone, there are simple steps you can take to help protect yourself.
The Sun writes about it.
Hide information on the lock screen
The lock screen can reveal more information than it seems. To avoid this, go to Settings — Face ID and passcode and scroll to the section "Access with locked screen".
Here you can disable access to:
- notification center;
- control panel;
- lock screen widgets;
- Siri and other features.
Disable items that you can do without. This reduces the risk of unauthorized access.
Hide notifications
If you don't want others to see notifications on a locked screen, go to Settings — Notifications — Show notifications. Select "After unlock" or "Never".
You can also customize notifications for individual apps, keeping important ones open and personal ones hidden.
Protect your applications
If your iPhone is already unlocked, apps remain vulnerable. iOS 18 adds the ability to lock apps with Face ID.
Click on the app icon and select "Require Face ID". For even more privacy, you can hide the app by selecting "Hide and require Face ID".
Hidden apps are stored in a special folder called "Hidden" in the "App Library".
Hide photos
You might want to hide some photos, such as important documents or personal photos. In the Photos app, click on the image and select Hide.
The hidden photos are stored in the Hidden folder, which can only be accessed after you verify your identity. To make this folder invisible, turn off Show hidden albums in Settings — Photos.
Use Safety Check
Safety Check helps you quickly check who has access to your data.
To enable it, go to Settings — Privacy & Security — Safety Check.
You can see who and what applications you are sharing information with and revoke access if necessary. If you suspect that access is being misused, click Emergency Reset to immediately disable sharing.
As a reminder, Android is valued as an operating system with flexible settings. Some of them can significantly improve the experience of using the device, so they are worth trying.
We also wrote that ads in browsers, apps, or games often annoy users, distract them, reduce battery power, and slow down the Internet. This is especially true for free programs from the Play Market or App Store.
