Nintendo has officially released the long-awaited game console Switch 2, which features a new black design and improved specifications. Although the release is scheduled for several months ahead, fans are already actively discussing its capabilities based on official announcements and leaks.

Gizmodo writes about it.

What we know about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2

Switch 2 will have a larger 8-inch screen and updated JoyCon controllers. They became more rounded and connected through a special port and magnetic sides. The improved design of the joysticks should reduce the drift problem that was characteristic of the previous model. In addition, the console has an additional USB-C port, new speakers, and ventilation holes, making it closer to portable PCs like Steam Deck.

Nintendo has confirmed the availability of a dock for Switch 2, which is rumoured to have:

  • Two USB-A ports;
  • HDMI;
  • Ethernet;
  • USB-C for power.

Accessories will also include controller pads that can be used separately or to create a more traditional gamepad.

Switch 2 will support cartridges from the previous version, but some games may not be compatible. Nintendo plans to provide more information about compatibility on its website at a later date. The trailer showed a new level for Mario Kart, which indicates that a new part of the series is likely to be released along with the launch of the console.

On April 2, Nintendo will hold an online presentation, Nintendo Direct, where it will present more details about Switch 2. In addition, the company is organizing a series of free events for players in the US, Canada, Europe, Asia, and Australia.

According to preliminary estimates, Switch 2 will cost about $400, which is $100 more than the initial cost of its predecessor.

According to rumors, Switch 2 will be powered by a custom Nvidia chip that will provide performance on par with PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. The console will also feature an 8-inch LCD screen instead of OLED to reduce production costs.

Despite its success, Apple has never tried its hand at the large video game market. It was limited to computer or console games, but now the company has a chance.
