China has presented a new robot capable of running 100 meters in record time, which is a significant achievement in the field of robotics. It is the result of a collaboration between the Institute of Humanoid Technology Innovation of Zhejiang University and Hangzhou-based startup Mirror Me.

It was reported by Interesting Engineering.

What world record the Chinese robot set

Black Panther 2.0 weighs 38 kilograms and is 0.63 meters high. The robot can run 100 meters in less than 10 seconds, setting a new world record among four-legged robots.

According to the Chinese News Agency, the design of the robot was inspired by the paws and joints of pygmy mice and black panthers. This has improved its high-speed mobility, focusing on power, strength, adaptability, smoothness, and precision of movements.

The development team aims to achieve speed and maneuverability that will exceed even those of animals in the wild.

Springs in the robot’s knee joints act as shock absorbers. The carbon fiber tibia increases stiffness by 135% with only 16% more weight. Cheetahs served as inspiration for the "running shoes" that increase traction by 200%.

The integration of Artificial Intelligence and machine learning in Black Panther 2.0 helps the robot adapt its gait to different types of terrain. The movements of the limbs are synchronized using the Huygens pendulum concept to achieve smooth movement.

The robot’s speed is still inferior to the fastest land animals, but it is already able to outrun most people in a sprint.

The HOUND robot was the previous record holder in this category. In 2023, it was able to cover 100 meters in 19.87 seconds.

As a reminder, every year at CES, you can see a variety of different robots. 2025 was no exception, where the cutest shy robot Mirumi was shown, hiding the moment you look at it.

We also wrote that Realbotix presented its latest robot at CES 2025. It is called Melody and impresses with its functionality and resemblance to a real person.
