It seems like there are no shortage of plans to further the Avatar franchise, which is great news for fans. Oscar-winning director James Cameron wants to expand Avatar into animation with an anthology series.

Cameron said this in an interview, The Hollywood Reporter writes.

The Avatar universe may soon grow beyond movies

Cameron hopes to bring Pandora to life in a new animated anthology — and he’s already pitching it to Disney.

"I said, ‘Look, I want to do an animated anthology series that’s essentially in the world but stories that you wouldn’t have expected from that world’. There might even be an animated feature in there — it might be a feature for streaming, or a theatrical feature," the director recalled.

Cameron’s third Avatar film, Avatar: Fire and Ash, is set to be released in theaters on December 19. The first trailer was released on Monday and has already received rave reviews, with one critic calling it "some of the most beautiful footage I’ve seen all year".

Also, Cameron plans five Avatar films and much of the footage has already been shot. Avatar 4 is set for Dec. 21, 2029, and Avatar 5 will arrive Dec. 19, 2031.
