Entrepreneurial Ukrainians know that the New Year and December in general are a good time for business. The demand for certain goods that are hardly bought during the year increases dramatically. Except for the future, to save money. In general, absolutely everyone is preparing for the Christmas and New Year holidays, both individuals and companies. So the reach of consumers is incredibly high.

New Year's rush for goods

New Year's decor is deservedly at the top of the categories. After all, when else would you buy Christmas lights, Christmas tree ornaments and other elements of the festive mood. Shops start selling artificial Christmas trees, toys, tinsel, firecrackers, etc. in October and November, but the maximum demand for goods is traditionally observed in December.

Another category of popular products is centered around gifts. Parents buy toys and sweet packages for their children, while boys and men choose cosmetic/perfumed sets for their girlfriends and wives. In the opposite direction, the situation is similar: to please their loved ones, women buy some electronics. So the gift segment gets a second wind for the New Year.

Of course, we shouldn't forget about food. Although these are everyday goods, the demand goes through the roof closer to the holidays. Ukrainians buy massively:

• delicacies (red caviar, fish, seafood);
• alcoholic beverages;
• sweets and fruits;
• ingredients for salads (canned food, vegetables, etc.).

Moreover, you can make good money on holiday costumes, including various fairy-tale characters due to the demand for animators for children's parties, parents order greetings from St. Nicholas or Santa Claus, companies organize corporate parties with costumed actors, etc.

If we talk about goods as a service, then closer to the New Year, the earnings of restaurants increase (corporate events are gradually returning, and prices are rising), photographers/videographers, interior decorators, cleaners, and caterers. In addition, homeowners who rent apartments on an hourly basis receive considerable income.

What else should Ukrainians know

As a reminder, we found out the cost of a holiday meal at the end of 2024 by comparing food prices in different supermarkets in Ukraine. A budget meal can cost citizens almost UAH 1,000. Interestingly, compared to November, the same set of goods went up by 3.2%.

We also wrote that the demand for New Year's corporate events has increased in Ukraine. Restaurants recorded an increase in the number of orders at the end of 2024. Although prices have risen by about 20-30%, this does not stop customers. Restaurants have noticed that customers' requirements for a banquet have become more ambitious.
