When can the military retire? Requirements for length of service in Ukraine
Military personnel retire under different conditions than ordinary Ukrainians. Their service requirements are significantly different, with special rules and benefits that take into account the specifics of their service.
This is stated on the portal of the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine.
Length of service for military retirement
It is stated that servicemen may retire on the basis of length of service after discharge from service if their calendar service is 25 years or more.
"Upon reaching the age of 45 on the day of dismissal from service, with 25 years or more of insurance experience, of which at least 12 years and 6 months are spent in the security forces", the statement said.
Service-members may retire for disability if the disability occurred during service or no later than three months after discharge. If the disability occurred more than three months after discharge, it is possible only if the illness that caused the disability occurred during service.
It is important to note that in this case, a person's seniority and length of service are not important.
