OpenAI has announced a "study mode" in ChatGPT, a tool that helps you solve problems step by step. The feature is available now to Free, Plus, Pro, and Team users and will be available in ChatGPT Edu in the coming weeks.

CNBC writes about it.

How does "study mode" work, and why was it added?

OpenAI explains that "study mode" is designed to promote deeper learning: instead of ready-made answers, students are given guided questions and step-by-step hints. According to Vice President of Education Leah Belsky, when ChatGPT is used as a teacher, it can significantly improve performance, while the role of an "answer machine" interferes with learning. The company calls "study mode" the first step in a longer journey to improve learning in ChatGPT.

According to OpenAI, every third student uses ChatGPT, so the product is designed with this audience in mind. In the example shown, a student sends a task, after which ChatGPT offers to complete two steps and summarize the solution in their own words.

"Study Mode" was created in collaboration with teachers, scientists, educational experts, and students, including participants in the ChatGPT Lab. OpenAI also recalls its close interaction with universities: last year, the company introduced ChatGPT Edu — a version of the chatbot specially designed for universities.

As a reminder, we wrote that digital assistants can significantly speed up the search for answers, but they also carry new risks. Experts named seven types of personal information that should never be entered into ChatGPT, so as not to become a target for attackers or a source of leakage.
